The August book selection will be The Assault on Reason by Al Gore. You can order the book at http://www.vgfd.net/bookclub and VGFD will make a commission for each book purchased through this link.

Everyone is invited, and you'll be able to participate whether or not you have read the book selection. The meeting is at our regular haunt: Paty's Restaurant, 10001 Riverside Dr, Toluca Lake.

Help call on California Leaders to support Senate Bill 840 for Universal Health Care for all California residents.

WHERE: Los Angeles City Hall South Lawn, 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012

WHEN: Saturday August 11, 2007; 1:00 - 3:00 PM

HEARSE PROCESSION:
A police escorted hearse procession will leave from the Westwood Federal Building at 12:00 pm and arrive at Los Angeles City Hall at 1:00 pm, representing the estimated 50 people who die each day from lack of health care coverage.

DIRECTIONS:

The NVDC meets on the third Thursday every month (unlike past years, we will continue meeting through the summer). Come for dinner at 6:30, meeting at 7:00. For information, contact Pauline Posner 818-341-1955. Surprise speakers and lively discussion are the norm.

Impeachment 101

We hear a lot about impeachment these days, but what exactly is impeachment? VFGD presents "Impeachment 101," a teach-in about impeachment followed by a lively discussion.

We will start with an unbiased presentation about impeachment covering these topics:

The history of impeachment
What does the constitution say?
What was the intention of impeachment?
What is a High Crime and Misdemeanor and grounds for impeachment?
How does impeachment work?
Is impeachment practical and does it work?
What are the options and alternatives?
What are the next steps?

Following the presentation we will open the floor to a respectful discussion. Because of the limited time, each speaker will be limited to 1 1/2 minutes each and speakers will have to wait until everyone else has had a chance to speak before they can speak a second time. VGFD members will be recognized before non-members.

We expect this to be a very informative and interesting meeting so be sure to join us!
