Our veterans aren't always shown the appreciation they deserve. Even after the sacrifices they have made for our country, those who are at VA hospitals still have to pay for their own phone calls home.
Valley Grassroots for Democracy and 4 Star Democratic Club are teaming up to collect contributions to buy phone cards for these veterans. For $5 you can buy one card which will pay for about 350 minutes. (The actual amount is based on the volume discount we are able to achieve.) We will buy the phone cards in bulk and deliver them to the VA hospital in West Los Angeles where they can be used by our local veterans.
Our previous phone card drives have paid for tens of thousands of minutes. Won't you show our veterans that we respect their service and sacrifice and contribute $5, $10, $25, or more to this important cause?
To make an online contribution fo to http://www.actblue.com/page/phonecardsforvets . You can also make a contribution via check made out to VGFD and mail it to PO Box 573383, Tarzana, CA 91357. Write "Phone cards" in the memo line. Deadline is August 1.

Everyone's welcome to come join the Burbank Democrats for the history, fun and excitement of Barack Obama's acceptance speech, and talk about what we need to do to ensure a victory in November. All televisions will be tuned in to this historic night. We anticipate starting at 7 p.m., but pending the timing of Obama's speech we may start earlier or later. We'd like to do this in "real time," but if that cannot happen, don't worry: DVR/Tivo will ensure we can watch it.
