The Obama campaign has designated Nevada as an important battleground state, with Senator Kerry losing by only 20,000 out of more than 800,000 votes cast. The Westside Democratic Headquarters will send a team of volunteers to the Las Vegas areas to register new voters and help swing Nevada into the Obama column. Buses will be leaving on both Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, and returning Sunday night. The HQ will cover most of the costs, and will ask for only a small donation to help us out. Join us! We have reached capacity for this event. Join us on Friday, October 17, at 7:00 pm for an evening with author and radio host Thom Hartmann. He will be talking about his book, "Cracking the Code: The Art and Science of Political Persuasion" Millions of working Americans talk, act, and vote as if their economic interests match those of the megawealthy, global corporations, and the politicians who do their bidding. How did this happen? According to Air America radio host Thom Hartmann, the apologists of the Right have become masters of the subtle and largely subconscious aspects of political communication. It's not an escalation in Iraq, it's a surge; it's not the inheritance tax, it's the death tax; it's not drilling for oil, it's exploring for energy. Conservatives didn't intuit the path to persuasive messaging; they learned these techniques. There is no reason why progressives can't learn them too. In Cracking the Code, Hartmann shows you how. Drawing on his background as a psychotherapist and advertising executive as well as a national radio host, he breaks down the structure for effective communication, sharing exercises and examples for practical application. Thom Hartmann is the host of a nationally syndicated Air America radio program. A four-time Project Censored award winner, he is the bestselling author of more than nineteen books, including Screwed: The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class‹and What We Can Do About It, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight, and Unequal Protection: The Rise of Corporate Dominance and the Theft of Human Rights. He can be heard locally on KTLK AM 1150 from 9:00 a.m. to noon weekdays. We have reached capacity for this event.

We all know, props are most often written in ways that are misleading. This November's voter information guide looks more like an encyclopedia. If this was done in hopes of exhausting us, well we are taking a different route. We are getting together for: A LIVELY EXCHANGE OF IDEAS and INFORMATION Well, here we go! The folks who want to ban gay Marriage are at it again on next month's ballot. Too, they are taking another shot at the anti-abortion teen parental notification measure. We will also be deciding props on redistricting (more complex than it might seem), humane treatment for farm animals, a safe high-speed rail, renewable energy, alternative fuel, veterans support and lots more. So take two hours off from electing President Obama, yeah, So much ground to cover so we appreciate your promtness: 7:00 PM
