SHERMAN OAKS DEMOCRATIC CLUB INVITES YOU TO OUR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
SODC Management Committee met in May, and has concluded that it is time for our club to reorganize, perhaps even change our name to emcompass the entire Valley rather than a neighborhood.
Agenda to Include:
- Change name and possibly include the "Liberal" brand.
- Better Community Outreach
- Change Meeting Format-General membership meetings to be limited to events, endorsements and fundraising while Executive Committee concentrates on the club business.
WE WILL ALSO MEET AGAIN JULY 25, 2009 AFTER 12 NOON, ALSO AT THE STATE BUILDING.
Shade trees, playground, great cook-out eats, plenty of seats—and even pets!—are in store for our club's fourth annual family picnic. Of course ALL the area's Democratic office-holders are invited to speak and Q&As—city, county, state and federal. We have confirmed so far state Sen. Carol Liu and City Council Member David Gordon; we hope to hear from Assembly Member Paul Krekorian, Cong. Adam Schiff and Brad Sherman, former city council/mayor Marsha Ramos, and others.
Tell your friends and family too: the Burbank Animal Shelter will also be there with pet adoptions available on-site. A bad economy also leads to a spike in abandoned pets and stressed budgets at the city shelter, so to help out please bring dry or canned pet food, cat litter, blankets or pet toys for our collection box.

It’s easier than you might think. Get specifics on how to live green-- cost-effectively and efficiently.
Hear from a DWP rep which practices to use and which to change, to avoid paying steeper water bills, as well as how you can reduce your charges. We always hear about rebates. Here’s your chance to ask about them.
Since posting our first promo, we’ve been told DWP is not ready to unveil its residential solar program. If you want these advances, tell the rep at our meeting!!
Then VDU Board Member Wayne Williams will offer lessons learned from the green adventures he and his wife Marsha are having. For the past few years they’ve used the sun, water and other natural resources to make their Sherman Oaks home-- and their lives-- energy efficient. He knows what to do and what not to do, and will share his best strategies.
At our June meeting we'll be meeting the gorillas in the room: the various reasons why the state is in such financial crisis. What are they, why are they so bad, and what can we do about it? We will also split up into groups and try to balance the budget ourselves.
Plan to join us for this month's meeting- Thursday, June 25 - when we will discuss "House of Cards: A Tale of Hubris and Wretched Excess on Wall Street" by William Cohan. Our member, Doris Dent, will lead the discussion of this analysis of how and why Wall Street recently crumbled.
We have dinner at 6:30 PM, followed by discussion from 7:30 - 9:00 PM at Coco's, 10841 Sepulveda (just north of the 118 and just east of the 405) in Mission Hills
