THE FUTURE OF HEALTH CARE IN CALIFORNIA

Hector De La Torre has spent his career standing up to powerful special interests to protect workers, consumers and taxpayers. He has taken on the tough fights - from corrupt politicians to heartless insurance companies - and won.

As a member of our State Assembly who also chairs the Assembly Committee on Accountability, Hector has not only been working tirelessly , but also successfully in a broad range of health care issues that are of concern to the people of California. He passed the law to stop insurers from canceling coverage when you get sick , passing legislation to provide funding for doctors to practice in under served rural and low income areas, protecting services for MediCal patients and currently pushing to require insurance policies to cover maternity services.

After passing in both Houses, the Governor threatened to veto all Bills.

Can we make health care veto proof?

Which Bills passed and what will have to be reintroduced?

Is single payer health care going to happen in California?

SPECIAL EVENT

AN EXCITING CHANGE OF PACE

THE MEETING THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!

WE ARE NOT KIDDING FOLKS

It's no secret that we live in a disaster prone area - i.e. earthquakes, fires, and now possibly some serious flooding this winter. All of us who lived through the Northridge earthquake know how devastating such a disaster can be.

To this end, Valley Democrats United has invited esteemed firefighter, Kevin Mason representing the Los Angeles City Fire Department's first rate CERT program (Certified Emergency Response Team) to come and talk about what to do in emergencies like major earthquakes, fires, floods - all those events which seem to have overtaken us in the past few years.

After speaking, Kevin will be answering questions and provide information about the CERT training program.

There is no time like the present to attend this timely meeting. Don't wait until an emergency becomes a catastrophe.

We warmly welcome any club that does not have a scheduled meeting this month to join us.

Extend this invitation to friends and neighbors. Where the "elements" are involved, we are all in this together.
